I am about to apply for a dream job I really want which involves programming PHP more professionally. This has nothing to do with WordPress MU, but it does need that I need to learn to write cleaner, more advanced and most importantly more professionally-looking code in order to impress the potential employer to the degree where they decide to give me and chance and hire me.

And what better way is there to learn and practice PHP programming than to write useful GPL code? I also need to practice getting up at six in the morning and working all day this week, so I expect to be able to put out a new version next weekend.

I will try to include more examples of how I use this on the actually-used-by-people Norwegian bloggservice trykker.com (livelyblog never amounted to anything).

And thanks for all the touching supporting comments.

This unusually simple widget, 3 actually, allows users to add three different sidebar widgets with an image by entering a http link to an image. It also allows users to optionally use the image as a link.

This extremely simple piece of software can be used for a whole range of things, it solves everything from placing a picture you want to share in the sidebar (you do have to upload it to your blog in a post draft or something and cut and paste the link though) to showing advertisements for affiliateprograms and such in the sidebar. The latter is actually why I wrote it, someone wanted a simple way of adding hot-linked advertisements with affiliate links in her sidebar. It is plain basic yet extremely useful.

I wanted three of these, so I wrote one, ran it through sed two times and simply appended the almost duplicates in the original file. There is much likely a better way, but it .. works and now it’s there, in code and out of my thoughts – and hot blond blogger chicks have already started using it, so I guess I did something right.

Just a reminder, please do not ask for support in the WPMU forums. They banned me a few years ago, I do not now why and I do not care. We should all be free to welcome or reject anyone to our servers. It was slightly annoying that they also banned me from checking out the WPMU svn, but hey, I got myself another username for thar purpose so that’s fine too.
